Join us for a unique opportunity to walk the
battlefields of the First Scottish War of Independence
at STIRLING BRIDGE
and FALKIRK where WILLIAM WALLACE fought proud
King Edward I’s army in 1297.

Discover why these two mighty armies clashed in the shadow of Stirling Castle
and unravel the aftermath that concluded at the Battle
of Falkirk ten months later which led to
William Wallace’s tragic and heart rendering end. We will explain the
background to this conflict detailing the movement of the two armies and follow
in their footsteps. This up close and personal journey is best experienced in
our small personalised group tours so roam with us as we relive the mayhem that
ensued in September 1297.
Relive this atmospheric part of Scottish history which was immortalised in
Mel Gibson’s blockbusting movie BRAVEHEART and we will explore where Hollywood meets reality on
location.
Your adventure begins as we depart from the historical city of EDINBURGH and make our way to the ancient
town of STIRLING, approximately
an hours drive to the north west.
We start our battlefield experience on the ramparts of Stirling
Castle where we can gain a panoramic
view of the River Forth floodplain and the location of the Stirling Bridge site. We then move onto
the battlefield where our guide will explain in great detail what happened when
the two armies collided. To view the scene from Wallace’s perspective we will
then visit the Wallace
Monument, which
stands proudly in commemoration of a patriot and Guardian of Scotland. Climb
the 246 steps, draw breath, and admire the view from the top. Admission to the
monument is included in the tour price.
After saying goodbye to Stirling we will take
a short break at The Falkirk Wheel where there will be an
opportunity to have a light lunch. Discover this magnificent example of
engineering, designed and installed to raise and lower barges 115 feet to and
from two of our famous canals.
Arriving at the site of the Battle of Falkirk you will be
surprised at the contrasting landscape we now encounter. Our guide will lead
you on a short ‘war walk’ which will take you to where King Edward I arrayed
his army ten months after defeat at Stirlng
Bridge and provide you
with a remarkable view of the battlefield. Once you have experienced what
happened here we move to our final stop of the day at Wallacestone
where our guide will explain the sad and tragic end our Scottish hero endured.

Dropping you off back in Edinburgh,
our tour ends giving you time to relax before enjoying an exciting evening in
our capital city and reflecting on a memorable and emotional battlefield tour.
